It is a sad Thursday when The Office is a rerun, Scrubs is not on, and Grey's is a rerun. But it actually turned out to be a good thing. I stayed at work late to get a report done in the quiet hours when everyone has gone home, I had a lovely time at the uncrowded gym since I was there later than usual, and I baked :) I like to bake, and my coworkers love to eat any kind of goodies, so it's a win all around! Since we're talking about baking, here is what I made (if you click on the pics you can see them larger):
This was something new. Phyllo dough (hard to work with!) filled with nutella and raspberry jelly. The one I sampled was just okay, but we'll see how they taste tomorrow with some powered sugar added on top. They look pretty though :)
Today I got my first organics delivery here, similar to the one I did in Portland. The closest place here is in NYC though, so they actually overnight UPS it to anyone in NY not in the NYC area.
It came in a cardboard box, which then had this plastic bag in it.
These are the goods. Let's see if I can remember it all:
4 apples
4 pears (you know it's been a long week when I had to look up how to spell pear! pair? pare?)
2 grapefruit
4 potatoes
a box of cherry tomatoes (they accidentally sent, since I said no tomatoes)
kale
spinach
dandelion greens
4 bananas
something that looks like a lettuce variety
4 bananas
a bag of carrots
broccoli
I just had an apple, and it was SO good. All of this produce is organic and delivered right to my door, every-other-week for now (how can I eat ALL of this!?!). We might do it every week or get the bigger size box when both Bryan and Krista (the new roomie) are here. Bryan thought this box was expensive at $38, but I think for organic produce shipped to my door it is quite a bargain. All of that food, non-organic, in the grocery store would probably be close to that price, and I'd have to do the shopping!
And the most exciting news......last word was that Bryan's sister was on her way to the hospital in labor!! She's still 2 weeks early, so who knows if it is the real-deal yet, but I'm so excited to meet my "nephew."
